I agree and we also went through a similar process at work (although a few years later than you), couldn't be happier with Python and Django. Although looking forward, I have a strong feeling that HHVM/Hack will become one of the darling platforms given the amount of resources Facebook has and the poor state of performance many PHP frameworks are currently in.
