Surprised by dominant "No and never tried it"
- justizin 12y agosome people probably don't want to answer honestly. this has always been a challenge for cannabis advocates and activists.
- antsar 12y agoWhy answer at all then?
- ancarda 12y agoWouldn't most people answer honestly because the poll is anonymous?
- pfraze 12y agoNot...really
- DanBC 12y agoNo. Researchers use tricks to get people to answer honestly. For example: they ask people to toss a coin before answering. If the coin comes up 'heads' the person must answer 'yes' even if their real answer would be 'no'. If the coin comes up 'tails' they must answer truthfully. The introductory text explains that there is no way to know if the person is answering truthfully or following the coin 'heads' rule. When you get the results you adjust for probability of the coin toss.
- soneca 12y agoMarijuana is scarce, hard to get and expensive after all. Things like "anyone can try it if willing to" is different for "it is selling at any sypermarket".
- meerita 12y agoIt depends where you live.
- soneca 12y agoMaybe, but I'm having a hard time to imagine a scenario where it is really easy. It is not that easy (as, say, soft drinks) neither in Uruguay or Amsterdam. It is expensive at the houses of everyone involved in drug dealing - it is their work after all. Any way, the exceptions don't affect a open poll as this one. But I would be interest in a research that answer this questions at different realities, such as, slums, high society, drug dealers family, public high school, private high school, etc.
- autechr3 12y agoI would say it depends on who you know more than where you are.
- alukima 12y agoYep. Where I grew up a small amount would get you jail time and it could affect your student. Most stayed away from it. Now I live in San Francisco and it's a bit of a different story here.
- igorgue 12y agoNot true, it's pretty easy to find, and very cheap compared to any other drugs (legal drugs like alcohol & tobacco included).
- peapicker 12y agoWhy? I'm surprised so many more have tried it.
- elwell 12y agoI live in LA.
- lucb1e 12y agoWhy are you surprised? I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything and consider most people that do drugs to be pretty irrational (especially anything beyond the socially accepted alcohol and cigs).
- bholzer 12y ago"and consider most people that do drugs to be pretty irrational" Why do you say that? Seems kinda silly to think that "socially accepted" drugs make someone more rational than the non-socially-accepted drugs.
- justizin 12y agoi would say choosing which experiences to have based on relatively arbitrary and/or corrupt laws is irrational. i find that people who go down this path of thought often misuse or abuse words like irrational, though.
- lucb1e 12y ago> Seems kinda silly to think that "socially accepted" drugs make someone more rational than the non-socially-accepted drugs. If something is socially acceptable then more people will try it because of group pressure. That's why I don't consider those to be as bad as stronger stuff. But in principle they are the same and alcohol is stronger than most soft drugs that are permitted in the Netherlands. Still doesn't seem to be outlawed in many places though...
- iza 12y agoAnd I consider people who limit their own experience for no good reason to be pretty irrational.
