I use google maps bicycling directions every day on my bike trip across the US and just saw this the other day.. that plus street view to see how good shoulders + road conditions are can be very cool tools for planning a bike trip. Sadly in west Texas good shoulders tend to be covered in chipseal resulting in days/weeks of much vibration.
