Github uses linguist to identify the codes programming language and unfortunately it's far from perfect - https://github.com/github/linguist https://github.com/github/linguist There are known issues with distinguishing code between certain languages. For eg. There are issues between Perl & Prolog (and sometimes even Puppet).
