ps. KML files were developed by Google for maps...
- maxerickson 12y agoKeyhole created KML for use in their earth viewer. Later, Google bought them and branded the software as Google Earth. Supporting KML in the web maps was just a neat thing Google also did.
- wyck 12y agoAh did not know that, it was for sure a neat thing they did. I manage a site that uses KML files extensively for bike and running paths and this switch did cause a minor bump.
- alphakappa 12y agoKML was created by Keyhole (the precursor to Google Earth)
- cynwoody 12y agoAnd Keyhole was named after the original US spy satellites, the KH series†, dating from 1959. High-res imagery download was via parachute-net. †http://fly.historicwings.com/2013/02/kh-1-the-first-spy-satellite/ http://fly.historicwings.com/2013/02/kh-1-the-first-spy-sate...
