FCC chair responds to net neutrality backlash
- jqm 12y ago‘I could not agree with you more’ Ya, actions speak louder than words my friend.
- dragonwriter 12y agoYou mean, like the actions of repeatedly adopting pro-neutrality regulation? Of course, unless supposedly pro-neutrality protestors create enough confusion to actually convince the FCC not to move forward with its current proposal (which there's some sign they might have done, since neutrality has been 3-2 with the FCC for a while, and least one of the usually pro- votes has already moved to a "delay" position on publicly releasing anything -- which would, at a minimum, leave no regulation in even the direction of neutrality in place for a longer period of time, and might scuttle the whole thing entirely) we'll actually have a concrete proposal to discuss and comment on soon rather than rumors and speculation. OTOH, it will be ironic if the protests over the rumors of an insufficiently strong Open Internet proposal actually manage to completely derail any regulatory effort toward neutrality.
- anigbrowl 12y agoPerhaps you could try addressing the specifics in the letter, like the observation that next weeks vote is a request for public consultation on which legislative powers it would be appropriate for the FCC to use. Some people here seem ot hink he has some sort of magic wand and all he has to do is wave it.
- jqm 12y agoA letter is a collection of words. The thing I say actions speak louder than. Sorry, after all the Washington speak emanating from our public officials with results diametrically opposed, I don't believe words as much as once did. When I see companies able to pay for faster access, when I see a former lobbyist heading the commission... I have to suspect these kind of statements are little more than attempts to placify while surreptitiously carrying out policies very different than the rhetoric. I would be delighted to be wrong.
- anigbrowl 12y agoSo what is your opinion of the vote scheduled for next week, which is definitely an action?
- higherpurpose 12y agoMore like FCC chair dismisses net neutrality backlash.
