This is convenient, since it's almost exactly what I plan to talk about in the undergrad class I'm teaching today (https://github.com/williamstein/sage2014 https://github.com/williamstein/sage2014). I view this sort of article as good motivation for Cython, and the value of this article is merely that it aims at typical undergraduates not in computer science.
