Maybe all the other places to host code should just do their job better. Ever think of that? There are a plethora of choices, and you can always use Google to find projects. However, it happens to be that GitHub is the best choice, it's a free choice, and there's really no reason NOT to use it other than some stupid prejudice that putting all your code in one place is a bad idea. Keep backups, and of course make sure GitHub isn't the only place your code exists (since you're using Git, that's not the case). and I don't really see a problem here.
