Hydrogen is a loss-leader put out there to buy Energy companies to buy a few more years of their incumbency and rent-seeking behaviour. It is just publicity and marketing. I am not a physicist, but I am pretty sure that the process of chopping up CH4 (methane; an already efficient source-fuel) and converting it to hydrogen to run in sub-optimal conditions in a small engine without any nationalized distribution method; is nothing more than posturing. Hydrogen is a relatively dangerous element and is pretty difficult to transport. It IS the most abundant element in the Universe. Unfortunately, just not on Earth....
