When I first started asking questions I learned a lot, the most articulated answers always came from the same users. It was also these same users that downvoted me, then upvoted when I corrected my mistakes. I've learned so much from my mistakes. I now welcome the downvotes just so I can prove myself!
After a year on Stack I started answering questions and still today don't hesitate to downvote users that don't understand what constitutes a valid question. I find people 'used' to react well commenting... "what did I do wrong?". Its the recent reaction to downvotes that changed.
