By default it uses Ocrad.js, a pure javascript OCR engine (ported via emscripten, see http://antimatter15.github.io/ocrad.js/demo.html http://antimatter15.github.io/ocrad.js/demo.html). But if you right click on the selection and change the language to "Internet Meme", it should transcribe it correctly (note that this sends the selection off to a server for remote processing- It's not the default for privacy and scalability considerations at the moment).
