Not all smart individuals have the same culture desires. Google is the posterboy for culture discussions, and they are very open and blunt about denying some extremely smart interviewees. They very carefully prune for cultural fit, and it has a large impact. Google's culture is a multiplying factor on the productivity. A bad culture fit for an employee or employer is an < 1 multiplier to productivity.
