I think that it is pretty weak of him to mention it this way. I get the impression that he says "look at me, I'm so clever".
- abalashov 17y agoI don't think it's intentional. But, I think it would've been more rhetorically graceful to just have alluded to the cave allegory without then saying, "Look, I just referred to the cave allegory!"
- kineticac 17y agowell, didn't want to get into explaining what the heck the cave reference was all about, hoping people who were confused about all of that could get some more insight to the basic ideas.
