I am actually in the middle of an implementation of a grid view myself; I'm giving Handsontable[1] a whirl and going to look at using pourover for filtering my dataset. Definitely meets your Excel-like interaction though not certain that it doesn't try to do everything for you since I haven't made it that far yet.
