As an interesting aside, Australia's taxation department, the Australian Taxation Office, provides a completely free piece of software each year called e-tax (http://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Lodging-your-tax-return/E-tax/ http://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Lodging-your-tax-return/E-...). It walks you through filling out your tax lodgement step-by-step and even calculates your expected return. It's not the nicest piece of software, but after having read this article, I am greatly appreciative that it exists at all.
