My 2 cents: No don't do it. Six months is a very short period in time, you'll be surprised how quickly it flies by without you haven't accomplished much, at which stage you'll be out of a job and money and little to show for it. Is there a reason you can't do these projects on weekends and in your spare time? Even if you manage to finish some projects, what makes you think these would automatically make you a very attractive engineering candidate?
