  I never advocated firing anyone actually including eich, but right or wrong employers certainly have the right to fire someone for their outside of work activities if its interfering with their ability to do their job. There are only very narrow protections for protected classes here. Everyone has the right to free speech in this country which is great, but free speech does not come with any assurance that there will not be consequences. You have no right to be free from criticism. You have no right to expect your employer to keep you on if you're damaging their business by generating bad press. I think this fundamental misunderstanding of free speech often drives these sort of "its intolerant of you to not tolerate my intolerant speech" sort of comments. Free speech comes with a great responsibility - accept the consequences of your speech.
