I just use an email address on a domain I own and send/receive from/to that address from gmail. That way if I change email provider it is transparent to people

I just use an email address on a domain I own and send/receive from/to that address from gmail. That way if I change email provider it is transparent to people emailing me, and domain portability is a solved problem. Could we not make this simple enough that everyone could do it?
