Is there an elliptic curve that is trustworthy?

  Yes. There are many trustworthy curves. Elliptic curve cryptography in general has not been discredited.

  To answer that you will have to define "trustworthy". I'm personally leaning toward trusting the curves proposed by Dan Bernstein [1], since he clearly explains the reasons for choosing the specific parameters and they're demonstrably valid.   None of the issues being talked about in this story have anything to do with the trustworthiness of elliptic curves.
