I suggest you read "Thoughts on keybase.io" (http://blog.lrdesign.com/2014/03/thoughts-on-keybase-io/ http://blog.lrdesign.com/2014/03/thoughts-on-keybase-io/), it touches the "roll your own" points as well as authentication and consequences like vendor lock-in.
