I'm wondering, what's John Carmack take on this, he quit idSoftware to join Oculus, which was very open by that time. He always was proponent of openness... right now from a laik perspective it looks it was mistake to leave id.
- joshontheweb 13y agoHis take is a nice slice of that 2 billion dollar pie.
- FLUX-YOU 13y agoYeah but what is Carmack going to do with more money? That's the last person I think of in tech who could be motivated by dollar signs.
- joshontheweb 13y agoArmadillo Aerospace ran out of money. Seems like that could be a potential destination for more money.

- nilkn 13y agoIt is possible to always want more money no matter how much you have.
- freyrs3 13y agoWiling to bet he'll wait a few days until the buzz settles down and then announce that he's leaving to pursue other work without a mention of why.
- bla2 13y agoWilling to bet he won't do that until about 4 years after the acquisition, to collect his payout.
- pera 13y agoMe too, I am sure he didn't expected anything like this :(
- venomsnake 13y agoHis twitter is silent. Not something that shows overjoy of the big exit.
- scient 13y agoBecause it's not an exit, its bootstrapping the business he initially joined to develop.
- jeffool 13y agoConsider that id Software sold to Bethesda about four years before he left it. He's a proponent of openness, yes. But he's been as much employee as employer since 2009.
- Danieru 13y agoA year or two back Carmack gave the keynote to Quakecon and mentioned his space program ran out of money. He said he promised his wife to not put more money in, until a liquidity event. This I assume counts as such a liquidity event. He must be a bit conflicted. He gets to restart his pet company, but facebook.
- firebones 13y agoOr he could be taking an executive position as the head of Facebook's new fully-capitalized Virtually-Piloted Space Drone division. I'm only half kidding.
