Developers Battle Over Bitcoin Block Chain
- xnova 13y agoAs a 'metacoin' protocol built on top of Bitcoin itself, Counterparty functionality can take Bitcoin beyond its current primary use as a payment network and quasi-store of value. Counterparty has created the world's first fully functioning distributed assets exchange, and the protocol includes other components such as distributed betting, CFDs, callable assets, dividend payments, and more. All of this is fully functional today. We also have a web wallet that will be released on mainnet next week most likely: testnet.counterwallet.co. The linked article on Coindesk discusses our recent debate with a few of the Bitcoin core developers over blockchain storage mechanisms. This ultimately becomes an ideological debate over the blockchain itself. Does "acceptable use" exist? Should content be censored or blacklisted? What are the best means to control "spam" content? Is Counterparty-type functionality valuable to Bitcoin?
