Excellent. Can't wait to see what it is.
- coderdude 13y agoSeems like a sentence that has nothing to do with the paragraph it appears in.

- dampflames 13y agoI think it wasn't referring to comments in general, but rather to the ones on articles about women in tech/startups that are negative in intent.
- yummyfajitas 13y agoWhat do you mean by "negative in intent"? Can you provide examples of comments of that nature?
- coderdude 13y agoDon't the downvotes already handle that? I wouldn't touch that topic with a 10-foot pole at this point.
- waterlesscloud 13y agoI'm curious about that one. There's a very tricky balance to work there, with the risk being that any change along these lines could exacerbate an already strong tendency towards groupthink in the comments.
- wyager 13y agoDeleting comments that disagree with the YC mods' opinions on gender-targeted recruitment?
- crystaln 13y agoMaybe replacing the moderator hell/slowban system with a feedback system to improve commenter behavior instead of infuriating commenters and scaring away controversial people. I've been banned a few times simply for strongly expressing an opinion contrary to HN ideology. I probably will be again for even bringing it up.
- tptacek 13y agoWhat opinions would those have been?
- testacular 13y agoHN is a site where some users say things like "tech feminists never seem interested in taking the high road, and instead optimize for maximum drama", while unironically claiming that they are reserving judgment. HN is a safe-haven for sexism and bigotry. It's great that samaltman claims that he wants to undo some of the damage that pg enabled, encouraged, and actively allowed. However, I'll believe it when I see it. p.s. User johnbm made the comment I quoted, along with some other pretty great comments. And he got upvoted for it, because that's the sort of community pg built. samaltman has a huge job ahead of him if he wants HN to stop being sexist.
- MartinCron 13y agostrongly expressing an opinion contrary to HN ideology Is it merely contrary to HN ideology or something that's considered outside the realm of legitimate controversy in this community? Some positions aren't going to be well-received no matter how well they are phrased, which is generally considered a good thing. We shouldn't have to continuously debate the idea that the universe is more than 10,000 years old, or that women should be first-class citizens in our society, for example.

- Jun8 13y agoHmm, I had a nagging feeling that pg's exit would end the golden age of YC and HN, with this comment I updated the probability of this hypothesis.
