They know how to get people who they have made money for to turn over a lot of that money to buy the companies they have invested in. I'm just trying to parse this. Is he saying that VCs earn money for their LPs, and then turn around and sell portfolio companies to the same LPs?

To put an example on it, I think he's talking about Facebook buying Instagram, and that sort of thing.

  In some sense. Of course I'm sure they had multiple suitors. Instagram has a huge user/traffic base.
