I have a Macbook Air that gets referred to as "the skinny computer" around the house. (as in, "I hate this f'ng skinny computer. Why won't it let me copy a f'ng photo???). It would never occur to me to refer to it by its model name. My wife has an iPhone 5s. As in, "Hey, toss me your phone. It has a better camera". Guess we're safe there too.
