Poll: Do you use full disk encryption on one or more personal computers?
Curious as to the adoption of full disk encryption among the HN community. What kind of performance penalty have you paid, if any?
- LoganCale 13y agoYes. No noticeable performance loss.
- SEJeff 13y agoYes! Any modern Fedora (my laptop operating system) or Ubuntu install lets you choose LUKS at install time and sets it up completely from the GUI. If you're stuck with windows, take a look at true crypt. You never know when something like a stolen laptop could come back to haunt you. Unless, like me, you're a victim of serious business identity fraud.
- kjs3 13y agoYes - PGP. Very little performance hit.
