Was it very painful to develop this great GUI or is GWT/HTML5 at a point where it's OK?

  GWT actually is great, especially if your app is big and there are more than one dev on a team

      currently the only html/css left in the app is in the inspector and some dialogs. everything else is drawn on canvas using our own canvas-based ui controls
