I like good apps, and would consider using something with iOS, but I haven't seen anything on iOS that is missing or not-as-good on Android. Could you give some example apps? It would be great to hear about some I/we are missing out on. I'm not just asking so I can say 'Hey Android has this already' - I'm genuinely interested in good apps!
- k-mcgrady 13y agoOff the top of my head: - Garageband - Amplitube - Paper by FiftyThree - iMovie - Penultimate - Sky Guide
- GFischer 13y agoSounds like Apple is really good for some niches, but I don't see any killer apps out there (which is why Android is thriving I guess :) ).
- k-mcgrady 13y agoIf you're a musician Garageband and Amplitube are both killer and there is now comparison on Android (one of the main things preventing me from switching to Android). It's a niche but a pretty large one. iMovie is something that isn't niche - a lot of people are going to find that very useful for putting together quick videos and photo montages to email to friends.
- Touche 13y agoNiche doesn't mean only for enthusiasts. Windows shipped a movie maker for years that no one used, I'm sure iMovie is the same.
- k-mcgrady 13y ago>> "Windows shipped a movie maker for years that no one used" Because it was terrible. Also there was no easy way to share videos. Look at how many videos are uploaded to YouTube everyday. A lot of people will get value form iMovie.
- simonh 13y agoOh boy was that bad. It couldn't write DVDs back when that was THE thing you wanted a video editor to do, and it only supported windows-only codecs. You couldn't even upload the videos to Youtube, when that became The thing you wanted to do with video, due to the proprietary-only codec support. This is one of the three main reasons I switched to Mac back in 2007. One was viruses, another was Time machine and the third was video as I had recently had kids. The closest thing to iMove on a PC back then cost IIRC about $1,000.
- IBM 13y agoAndroid is gaining market share because of extremely low-end devices that are inexpensive. So far that hasn't been enough to convince developers to stop being iOS first, and especially not for tablets.
- pjmlp 13y agoMany developers are Android first on the markets that cannot afford iOS devices.
- MrScruff 13y agoEveryone has their own niche though. This is what Apple suffered from in the 90s - the long tail. Whatever you wanted to do, there was a Windows application that did it.
- rikkus 13y agoThanks, will check them out.
- jkaljundi 13y agoMany aviation, flight planning and aviation navigation maps are much better on iOS and there is much better choice for iOS. The same for many magazines.
