Poll: what's your primary editor/IDE?
All the controversy surrounding Atom sparked my curiosity – what do HNers use as their primary text editor?

- ansimionescu 13y agoI suspect this time around ST will destroy everything else. To be honest I can't really think of another editor that's as portable, affluent with extensions, and easy to use. And [0] and [1] are almost as good as the real thing. edit: One of the big reasons I depend on ST at the moment is GoSublime [2]. 0: https://github.com/guillermooo/Vintageous https://github.com/guillermooo/Vintageous 1: https://github.com/grundprinzip/sublemacspro https://github.com/grundprinzip/sublemacspro 2: https://github.com/DisposaBoy/GoSublime https://github.com/DisposaBoy/GoSublime

- citrin_ru 13y agoIt is possible to effective write code using vim/emacs on many different languages from assembler and C to perl and Go. But there is at least one exception - it is very hard to write Java code without IDE (like Eclipse or IDEA).
- officialjunk 13y agofor myself, "primary ...IDE" is much different than "primary text editor." for text editing, i use a simple text editor. for development with integration with ant/gradle and debuggers i'll use an IDE. i assume you are polling about development, given the context of atom.io, but the phrasing of the question two different ways (in the title and the sub title) is little confusing.
- pistacchioso 13y agofor myself, when someone corrects somebody on what they "meant" to say, it means that they got the question right in the first place, so there's nothing to correct if not for the sake of being polemic. IDE or text editor, OP wants to know where you write the lines of of code that compose your programs.
- officialjunk 13y agoI don't think I was trying to correct anyone. I just find it confusing that the question OP is asking is phrased two different ways, that would each illicit a different response from me. "what's your primary editor/IDE?" vs "what do HNers use as their primary text editor?"
