When package managers misbehave, the whole software bundle suffers. Maybe the Node.JS project should have more (decision) power over its package manager. Node maintainers properly announce api version changes sometimes months in advance, so you don't need to read through the pr/issues on github or mailing lists to stay up to date. I really don't think an advance notice would have hurt. So much for automation.
