I have never thought about shrinking the closing tags to </>, if it were supported it would shrink large HTML-pages quite nicely.
Has there been a proposal at W3C to use that kind of a format back in the good old days of HTML 1.0?
- userbinator 13y agoI don't know about the historical aspect but I do know that the HTML5 parsing spec explicitly ignores the "</>" sequence. More interestingly, "</ >" (with an extra space) is parsed as a "boguscomment" which means it basically adds a comment node.
