The author's paper on the topic (http://sloanconsortium.org/sites/default/files/6-Schwartz_0.pdf http://sloanconsortium.org/sites/default/files/6-Schwartz_0....) makes for interesting reading as it expands on the five requirements he states are necessary for authentic understanding. Though having read it, the only conclusion I can make is that I don't really understand anything about the subject.
