What I find interesting is that apparently YouTube can differentiate between fake and real views. But Facebook can not differentiate between fake and real likes. Difference, YouTube pays you, but you have to pay Facebook. Hmm...
- whitef0x 13y agoWell poor zucky has to make his money in some way! Especially after the big dent in the budget due to WhatsApp .
- zebra 13y agoFor those not finding 'zucky' in the dictionary - this is the pet name of Zuckeberg.
- SixSigma 13y agoThose not finding 'Zukeberg' in the dictionary - it's a misspelling of Zukerberg
- choult 13y agoFor those not finding Zuckerberg in the dictionary, he founded Facebook.
- kleiba 13y agoHN must really be on the decline :(
- choult 13y agoHumour must really be on the decline :P To the downvoters: ah well :)
- dasil003 13y agoTo the contrary, reddit is doing better than ever, but it's not the only style of humour.
- nicky0 13y agoNo humour here. Thank you.
- SixSigma 13y agoI actually post in fear of the hellban. I have lost two 100+ karma accounts already and even had my IP blacklisted for a while for saying "Is this really an HN worthy post?" to some general world news on an emotive topic.
- dasil003 13y agoWell that's explicitly against the site guidelines, and I think the mods take it very seriously because we're already a highly critical demographic, without some checks and balances it would be very easy to devolve into a droning whingefest. If you feel the need to proclaim something un-HN-worthy you can choose to either flag it or ignore it (or rip it shreds on objective grounds).
- SixSigma 13y agois it really suitable grounds for hellbanning and IP banning someone who has made a 100+ karma contribution for easily ignored words.
- whitef0x 13y agohumor+engineers = downvotes obviously

- zebra 13y agoEnglish is not my first language and I really looked 'zucky' in the dictionary.
- tptacek 13y agoMy understanding is that Google has made it pretty difficult to generate bogus Youtube accounts.
- vecter 13y agoBogus YouTube accounts aren't necessary to generate fake views.
- Flammy 13y agoFun fact: 83% of visitors to YouTube are not signed into a google account. Lots of those ads are based primarily the video content or other instantly detectable things like geography, language, etc.
- jonknee 13y agoFacebook reports its profile numbers to Wall Street and as such fake profiles make them lots of money. Google reports nothing about YouTube accounts and has no incentive to look the other way at fakes (and indeed with AdSense in the picture Google has an incentive to crack down).
