It's not just you, I've heard this before, but I personally don't agree. Obviously it's very subjective and depends on how you learn/think - I'm a visual person so these types of environments have always made a lot of sense to me. Also, don't forget that most of the complicated-looking ones are showing a large program - the equivalent of hundreds of lines of code. Just like you to see a portion of code on your screen at any given time, to work on these you'd zoom in to the relevant portion.
