Actually the house is seen as all architecture, the architect is relatively free from engineering concerns (bridge, all engineering.) I agree though, to do something new, or to implement new ideas that have not been libraryized you need to understand the algorithms and be able to implement them. Is it necessary? You can earn a salary without it. You can also earn a salary selling houses, it doesn't matter, it depends what you want to do. You need what you want.
