Ridejoy, Pathjoy, Homejoy, Eventjoy. There's something about YC and a certain suffix...
- immad 13y agoPathjoy was renamed to Homejoy, so not really two examples.
- nathancahill 13y agoAre they "delightful"?
- dpiers 13y agoYou forgot Tipjoy (W08) and Snapjoy (S11). Another thing YC companies love is using "hello@" for their contact email address.
- zaidf 13y agoAlso Tapjoy too, not YC but a YC alum :)
- ivankirigin 13y agoTipjoy cofounder here. "joy" is a three letter word that is incredibly positive. To come up with the name, I wrote down every word that was about money and payment, and every one about happiness, and tipjoy was the shortest combo. I bought it for $8. The reason you see so many now is that these characteristics haven't changed.
- tgoldberg 13y agoAgreed about it being positive. Event organizing can be tough and we want to make it easy. I think "joy" helps emphasize this.
- jareau 13y agoDon't forget about the "zen" of YC: Zencoder, Zenefits, ZenPayroll, Zenbox, & Zenedy.
- jonnathanson 13y agoTheon Greyjoy would sue, but he's not doing much business under that name these days.
- faddotio 13y agoReek.ly?
- anigbrowl 13y agoYeah, cargo-cult branding is an automatic negative to me as a consumer - it says the firm has no USP and is basically seeking capital to engage in an insurgent price war with a weak incumbent. That's not inherently bad, but the endgame seems to be an identical pursuit of economic rents or acquisition by an established rentier.
