- seszett 13y agothe "$" sign is often used as a general currency sign. Since 600+400+300+200+500 == 2000, the article is obviously talking about renminbi. And it doesn't matter a lot. The writer probably didn't have a 元 or a ¥ on his keyboard and didn't know about ¤.
