The highest class in this country creates this reality. There is no police state if there is not economy to protect. There is not economy to protect if there's not huge multinational corporations. Legal violence is a tool used indirectly by the largest players in the economy. Police and militaries preserve order which reduces risk to highly invested economic interests; it helps keep the growth curve slowly moving up and to the right. As fucked up as that whole situation was, it's born out of a massive economic disparity and not a "deluded hacker" mentality.
