I'm on campus right now and can download the PDF. I'd upload it, but I don't want to pull an Aaron Swartz. <_<
EDIT: Okay here, but I have limited bandwidth so get it while you can: https://mega.co.nz/#!CNgVhZra!JcsLGB5y0FGUffI4rdyNr-BBl82YJDNH1ah3_4kSPcU https://mega.co.nz/#!CNgVhZra!JcsLGB5y0FGUffI4rdyNr-BBl82YJD...
- TeMPOraL 13y agoThey won't get after you because of one paper. Please, do it for the betterment of mankind :).
- unepipe 13y agoIt's not worth it. The terrorists won.
- oscargrouch 13y agoBy terrorists you mean those illusionary guys that the politicians use as the boogie man, to beat down the rationality of ordinary people by provoking fear, so they are legally allowed to do virtually anything without nobody to stop them?
- mildtrepidation 13y agoI want to downvote this. I really do. And I think when I feel justified in doing so that things will have improved.
- lotsofmangos 13y agoIt would be cool if there were a globally inclusive political movement that continuously stood for election in multiple countries simultaneously. It could then be called the Terraists and possibly solve the whole issue through discordant namespace collision.
- TeMPOraL 13y agoWhether illusionary or real, their goals are the same, and they're winning because people exchange their rational thinking for illusions of safety.
- rockyleal 13y agoNo I think he means the terrorists that want to kill you because you are free to pay for everything.
- oscargrouch 13y agoMuch more likely we gonna be killed by diabetes, or falling from the stairs.. the propaganda is unproportional to the size of the threat.. meanwhile, other types of "predators" may scape from our sight.. not minimizing the problem.. just saying that there are bigger ones that deserve more attention .. and overreacting wont help, i think, anybody.. so, back to the original topic..
- tptacek 13y agoOr we could talk about nuclear fusion.
- yen223 13y agoWhy talk about what might be the biggest scientific breakthrough of the year, when we can regurgitate snarky comments about Elsevier again?
- collyw 13y agoWell if Elsever would make it easier to access, we wouldn't have to. $32 to read about what might be the biggest breakthrough of the year?
- icebraining 13y agoSounds cheap.
- collyw 13y agoYou would be happy to pay that, if after you read it, you noticed some glaring inadequacies with the science and decided it is a non-article?

- noobermin 13y agoI was going to suggest I do the same thing. Well, just upload it somewhere for someone else to find...accidentally, you know.
- bbosh 13y agoThose PDFs are normally watermarked with a unique identifier for your account. It's not worth it.
- Finster 13y agoI didn't log in. For almost all of these they detect that I'm connecting from my campus IP block and unlock everything.
- throwaway_yy2Di 13y agoDistinguished editors strap Finster into vacuum target chamber... "Come now, editorial board of Nature. Do you expect me to pay for a subscription?" "No, Mr. Finster -- we expect you to fuse!"
- plorg 13y agoI accessed over a vpn link into campus, signed-in by my user ID. The md5sum of the link provided above (and the others in the thread) are identical to the copy I downloaded from my campus IP block. Unless you're also on the campus of Iowa State, I don't think they're watermarking this paper.
- suprgeek 13y agoUpvoted for the sentiment. The actual paper marks just another incremental step in a triple marathon that we seem to be running veeeery slowly. Also, if you do "pull an Aaron Schwartz" please change the ending - we need a very public Supreme court administered kick-in-the-teeth for all the out of control copyright regime and its criminal sentencing farce.
- Finster 13y agoAgreed. I do not plan to ever go out like he did!
