Ask HN: Well known software projects that floundered due to founder's death?

In the post today about ESR chastizing Linus, he mentioned the worry about something happening to Linus which could've been trouble for Linux. This got me thinking: are there are any software projects that have been impacted severely (probably negatively, but maybe positively?) by the death of a key contributor?
