It's a perfectly fine word: https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=drone%2C+drones&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=

if you are an ignorant, unethical person in the US maybe, but not if you live in Yemen or Pakistan. its such a perfect illustration of how blind people can be. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/us-drone-strikes-stirring-outrage-in-yemen/2014/02/07/1bd5768a-900c-11e3-84e1-27626c5ef5fb_gallery.html#photo=1 http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/us-drone-strikes-stirrin...

This is literally the most surreal chain of comments I have ever read on HN. The word drone is not 'reserved' for anything and the rest of your attempted call to action is just bizzare.
    • kmfrk 13y ago
Yeah, it's pretty high up there.

In the non-English speaking world, the word drone has come to mean "death machine in the sky." Not everyone speaks English. Certainly in Europe, if you ask someone what 'drone' means, not many will use the tonal definition of the term ..

Are you serious or are you just trying to write the most caricatural HN comment? Besides, I doubt this is targeted (pun intended) at people living in remote areas of Yemen or Pakistan that are typically the target of military drones.

well, I guess you're an US citizen. so you will not understand, because you're living in a bubble. and your derogative answer just shows what a person you are. perhaps I'm in Yemen and my friend was killed in a drone. how can you dare making such comments?

I'm French, born in Paris from a Dutch mom and a Syrian dad. Lived part of my childhood in Syria, France and then years in Peru where my wife's from. What were you saying again?
        • bachback 13y ago
get some ethics? making jokes about drone killings is disgusting.
          • patrickaljord 13y ago
what joke? You really need to chill out and stop lecturing people. What are you, 12?

Oh no, 7 Billion people on this planet and they forgot the meaning of "drone" for Yemen or Pakistan, the greatest IT nations on the planet ;-)
