- ColinWright 13y agoVarious external forces have prompted me to re-assess some of the things I spend time on. I have spent a reasonable amount of time on HN and I've learned a great deal, but more recently I've felt that I'm seeing the same things over and over again, or things that genuinely have no value to me. Note that I say "to me" - I'm not judging anyone else - different people have different interests and different goals. But I'm starting to question my time here. As part of that I'm wondering if maybe I'm just missing the point, and that skimming the front page and skimming the newest page means that I'm missing what really matters. As part of trying to work that out I'm looking at what the HN community thinks is interesting and important. And this thing about Flappy Bird has me baffled. So to answer your questions: * it's not so much that I care what HN cares about, I'm just trying to work out if I'm missing something; * no, not everything has to be a learning experience, but HN isn't especially entertaining or relaxing, so if it's not educational, it's of negative value to me; * and maybe this thread is a waste of time for you, in which case why did you take the time to contribute to it? So, just thinking out loud, trying to learn ...
