It's easy positive publicity. Same reason why AT&T "took a stand" against the anti-gay propaganda law. Same reason why some politicians are calling for a boycott against the Olympics. In fact, I'd wager it's the same reason why Google decided to publicly support the movement against SOPA some time ago. If these companies were truly concerned about human rights, they would take a look at themselves first.
