- fecak 13y agoWe are going to use Google as the standard for profit? Do you think Google's success might be characterized as a bit of an outlier, as opposed to the norm?
- randomdata 13y agoAs long as Google is hiring, you have to compete against them though. You don't get to offer $50K for the same job Google is offering hundreds of thousands for just because you are a small company not making any money. I mean, you can, but don't expect anyone to give you a second thought.
- mgkimsal 13y ago"for the same job" - there's almost nothing like 'the same jobs' google hires for and 90+% of the rest of the tech jobs out there. No, most companies aren't competing against Google for hiring people, unless by "most" you're only looking in SV. I was contacted by Google last summer for a potential job. I was shocked at how mediocre their recruiting staff were - unfocused, intentionally vague/evasive, rambling, didn't answer my questions, didn't followup when they said they would. Perhaps Google can't convince some people to uproot their lives and move across country because they're not doing a very convincing job in their initial outreach?
