Sony bought Ericsson's phone business. They make nice Androids, but are not very high profile in the U.S. Certainly nowhere near the market share Ericsson had in the 90's. Much of the R&D is actually in Sweden. Ericssons network business is alive and well, actually no. 1 by market share. I worked there until recently.
