"Because what Yanukovych is doing is very pro-Russian"
Whoa, so him almost signing euroassociation papers (doing all the necessary work) was a very pro-Russian move?
- IgorPartola 13y agoHim not signing them was pro-Russian. The EU treaty was ready to go, when Yanukovych suddenly turned around and refused to sign it. That was the pro-Russian move.
- guard-of-terra 13y ago"The EU treaty was ready to go" Did it mystically became ready to go, or did Yanukovych's apparatus made concrete steps to getting the EU treaty ready despite being Russian puppet? If he is a Russian puppet, how this EU treaty ever got on the table?
- forgottenpass 13y agoOK, you already provided clarification for his statement. Now it looks like you're being pedantic for no good reason or just trying to start shit with IgorPartola.
- guard-of-terra 13y agoRight now my comments look like I'm wrong and I don't understand where.
- girvo 13y agoThat it was pro-EU while going through the process of getting the treaty ready, but to snub it at the last minute for Putins favour is very very pro-Russian, if you will. Far more so than doing some paperwork, anyway.
- guard-of-terra 13y agoThen maybe he's not a puppet but actually an actor who tries to extract bonuses from multiple parties by raising stakes? I.e. get EU treaty ready to be signed, extract power from Russia based on the fear of this treaty going live. And then try to extract more power from EU based on the fear that Russians are overtaking. But that's not what puppets do.
- mtrimpe 13y agoAnd let's not forget a certain quid-pro-quo which precipitated the deal: http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/12/17/putin-offers-ukraine-15b-in-loans-and-cheap-natural-gas-in-bid-to-trump-eu-deal/ http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/12/17/putin-offers-ukraine...
