The US can't claim that it's unacceptable for China to plant backdoors in its hardware, but its perfectly fine for the US to do so. Well, actually, they can claim that, and they do. But it takes a fair amount of mental acrobatics to reconcile this contradiction unless you've been firmly indoctrinated in the notion that the US are the "good guys" and the Chinese are the "bad guys".
