I find that I try and avoid certain topics on HN, they tend to be clustered around: 1) discussions of gender 2) discussions of gentrification in the bay area 3) financial or political ideology (anything especially randian, for instance) Interactions / discussion tend to not be as factual or informative as other discussions. The poster makes great points on how to engage, sometimes, however, good posts are lost within a bunch of noise.
