Difficult one. Basically these are put in place to stop you stealing source code improving it and releasing it as yours. The best thing to do is ask for an exception for particular pieces of work if you are worried about it. Any half decent company will be more than willing to let you work on code outside of work so long as: 1. It does not affect your companies work. 2. The code you write at work will not be included in the projects you are working on.
