MtGox started as a Magic the gathering card exchange. While it's caused some snark, it didn't seem to get in the way of MtGox being the premiere BTC exchange for a while.
- ahoy 13y agoThat's hardly a 1-to-1 comparison. For starters there are a number of large, legitimate businesses that make their money selling MtG cards on the secondary market. Secondly, didn't the folks at mtgox just use the domain name because they already owned it? AFAIK, the mtgox exchange bitcoin didn't grow out of the mtg exchange, it just happened to share a domain name.
